THE BANDS
Marching Band
The instrumental music department consists of
marching band, concert band, jazz band, pep band, and small ensembles
including brass and woodwind quintets. The marching band performs at
half-time shows for the football games and marches in both local and
out of town parades. The marching band also competes in two or three
marching competitions during the last part of the first quarter.
Concert Band
At the conclusion of the first quarter the marching band becomes a
concert band. This band will perform in two or three concerts during
the last part of the first semester, all of second semester, and at the
District Music Contest each spring.
Jazz Band
The auditioned group meets twice a week during the second, third and fourth quarters. It has multiple performances and takes a two day tour to other high schools in the state to promote music in the schools month. The jazz band also performs in the school Variety Show and Fine Arts Night. Each jazz band member must be enrolled in band or percussion for the entire year.
Pep Band
Pep band is a volunteer based group that performs at most varsity home basketball games and pep rallies. Students earn points towards a band letter by attending these pep band performances.
Percussion Ensemble
This class offers the students basic instruction in percussion. Students will learn the various instruments used in the percussion section. The percussion class is part of the total instrumental band. The winter drumline is the main performing ensemble for this class. The drumline performs at local basketball games, the school variety show and Fine Arts Night.
